WMATA Kicks-Off Fleet of the Future Expo

APTA President and CEO Paul P. Skoutelas joined with national and local leaders March 19 to congratulate the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s (WMATA) Fleet of the Future Expo at an event on the National Mall in Washington, DC. More than 200 people were in attendance. The Expo showcases WMATA’s new 8000-series railcar mock-up and a new 60-foot electric bus, both of which guests will be able to board from March 20–April 3.

Skoutelas applauded WMATA’s latest infrastructure investment. He praised the continued modernization of what he called “America’s transit system,” and those who helped make it possible, including Randy Clarke, WMATA General Manager and CEO; Paul C. Smedberg, WMATA Board Chair; Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD); Polly Trottenberg, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Transportation; business leaders Giuseppe Marino, group CEO, Hitachi Rail, and Chris Stoddart, president, North American Bus & Coach, New Flyer; and Yamada Shigeo, Japanese Ambassador to the United States.
