Public-Private Collaboration Helps Advance TEXRail Extension

Trinity Metro is collaborating with Baylor Scott & White Health to advance the agency’s TEXRail extension. The not-for-profit health system is planning to donate approximately 1.76 acres for a new station that will connect to the Medical District and Near Southside in Fort Worth, TX.

Better connections to those areas will strengthen the entire region. The Near Southside is one of Fort Worth’s largest employment centers, with tens of thousands of people working in the area and a significant concentration of medical jobs.

“The Medical District and Near Southside are building Fort Worth’s future right now,” said Richard Andreski, president and CEO of Trinity Metro. “TEXRail isn’t creating that momentum; it’s connecting to it and amplifying its growth. Our collaboration with Baylor Scott & White Health strengthens the connection between this important employment center and the people, businesses, and communities that contribute to its success.”

Anette Soto Landeros, chief strategy officer for Trinity Metro, cited APTA’s research that every dollar invested in public transportation generates $5 in long-term economic value and said: “The impact of transit reaches well beyond the people who board a train. Here in the Medical District and Near Southside, transit amplifies the growth already happening by connecting people to jobs, healthcare, businesses, and the rest of our region.”

The agency plans to break ground on the TEXRail extension later this year.
