Public-Private Partnership Delivers SacRT’s New 7th & Railyards Station
10/23/2026

The Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT), CA, celebrates the opening of a new 7th & Railyards Station. The opening marks a major milestone in expanding access to light rail for residents, employees, and visitors in an area that is undergoing significant transformation.
Now open to passengers, along with the Green Line, which was temporarily suspended during construction, the new station provides light rail access to a rapidly growing development. The station is part of an ongoing transformation of the Railyards, one of the largest urban infill projects in the United States. Once home to Sacramento’s historic railroad operations, the Railyards is being developed into a mixed-use community with housing, healthcare, retail, entertainment, transportation, and public spaces.
The developer was responsible for funding and building the station. Funding for the project included an Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities grant administered through the California Strategic Growth Council and the California Department of Housing and Community Development, with support from the California State Parks Office of Grants and Local Services. Downtown Railyard Venture also contributed equity funding.
SacRT said the investment demonstrates how state funding, private development, and transit infrastructure can work together to create new transportation options while supporting sustainable community development.
The opening of 7th & Railyards Station comes just one month after SacRT opened the new Dos Rios Station in September, bringing SacRT’s total number of light rail stations to 55.
