OmniRide Celebrates 40 Years with New Vehicles

OmniRide unveiled 16 new vehicles during a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking a significant investment in safe, reliable, and accessible public transportation throughout Prince William County, VA, and the surrounding region. The agency supports 2+ million passenger trips each year.

The new vehicles include eight MCI commuter buses, seven Gillig buses, and one electric van. The 40-foot Gillig buses will replace vehicles that have reached or exceeded their useful life and will serve OmniRide Local and Metro Express routes, while the electric van will support microtransit and paratransit services.

OmniRide Executive Director Dr. Bob Schnieder said, “Together, these new vehicles represent our ongoing commitment to delivering a modern, reliable transit system that supports our riders and provides our operators with the tools they need to serve the community safely and effectively.”

Funding contributions from the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation and FTA helped make the vehicle acquisition possible. David Schilling, director of FTA’s DC Metro Office said, “This investment directly accelerates the FTA’s mission and OmniRide’s core service goals by providing safe, reliable local and commuter transit service to Northern Virginia, ultimately helping everyone ‘Get There Smarter.’”

Noting the anniversary milestone, Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission Board Chair Victor Angry said, “Forty years of moving people to work, to school, and to opportunity across our region is worth celebrating.”
