NYMTA Connects Small Businesses with Prime Contractors

The New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (NYMTA) hosted “Meet the Primes,” a networking event at the CUNY Graduate Center in Midtown Manhattan that drew 700 registrants from small and medium-sized construction firms. The event connected businesses with leading NYMTA contractors and provided information about subcontracting opportunities related to design-build contracts awarded in 2025 and 2026.

“MTA’s $68.4 billion Capital Plan is going to generate tens of billions of dollars in economic output within New York State, and we want small businesses to get a piece of the pie,” said Chair and CEO Janno Lieber.

The event included discussions around the 2025–2029 Capital Plan, small-business programs, and the agency’s EDGE initiative, which focuses on small business development.

Contracting companies said they highly value such events. Zion Contracting, LLC President Hely Duarte said, “Events like this are incredibly important because they create direct access to the people, opportunities, and relationships that allow companies to grow within the MTA contracting community. These events are about more than making introductions—they help build a pathway for small businesses to become long-term partners in delivering New York’s infrastructure.”
