Newly Appointed San Joaquin RTD CEO Looks to the Future

The San Joaquin Regional Transit District (RTD) named Eric Williams as its chief executive officer. Earlier in the year he was appointed as the agency’s chief operating officer followed by being named acting CEO.

Williams aims to focus on the agency’s long-term vision as communities throughout San Joaquin County, CA, continue to grow and change. “Transportation is changing, and RTD must be willing to evolve with the communities we serve,” said Williams.

Williams has been meeting with local leaders to listen to concerns and collaborate on mobility services, maintenance partnerships, regional funding, and emerging transportation needs associated with economic and population growth. “We cannot serve this region effectively by operating in isolation. RTD must be a trusted regional partner,” he said.

The agency will explore transit-oriented development and new mobility models to make better use of its assets. Other priorities include recruiting and retaining talented employees, strengthening safety and security, and ensuring reliable and efficient service.

“As CEO, I am not simply thinking about what RTD needs to look like next year,” said Williams. “I am thinking about the RTD we need to build for the next 30 or 40 years.”
