Via Launches Fixed Route Live Operations Solution at APTA EXPO

10/16/2026

At APTA’s 2026 TRANSform & EXPO in Chicago, IL, Via demonstrated its new Fixed Route Live Operations solution in a learning session: “A day in the life of the connected transit network.” The service adds real-time visibility, automation, and optimization to the organization’s transit technology platform.

Via explained that traditional fixed-route service relies on plans and schedules largely set in advance. Its new Fixed Route Live Operations continuously monitors service in real time and automatically responds to routine changes. The updated information guides drivers and informs riders about service changes. It also flags issues that require a dispatcher’s attention.

“Transit agencies have always had to manage the gap between the service they plan and the service they actually deliver,” said Nithya Sowrirajan, chief product officer at Via. “With Fixed Route, we’re connecting those two worlds. Agencies can plan, schedule, operate, and learn from their service in one connected workflow.”

The organization is connecting fixed-route planning and operations so that transit agencies can manage planning, scheduling, dispatch, and rider-facing communications in one place. For example, agencies can:

  • Plan a two-route change or a 200-route network, with network design, timetables, and service changes managed in the same environment.
  • Schedule drivers—aligned with labor rules, fleet requirements, and driver preferences—and share with operations in one click.
  • Dispatch in real time, with map and timeline views that flag vehicles running early, late, or at risk of falling behind.
  • Communicate servicechanges to both drivers and riders.
  • Capture what happens on the road to inform future planning.
