New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (NYMTA) and New York City Transit took advantage of a planned service outage to complete work to refurbish three stations. The work was completed over four weekends in July and August when replacement of 30-year-old switches required a suspension of three lines in Lower Manhattan. With no train service, crews were able to make station repairs to improve customer experience.

NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow said, “We take service changes seriously, so we make sure to do work during those changes that ensure when riders return to their stations, they see the improvement.”

The work included repairing platform edges, repainting track ceilings and columns, masonry repairs, refinishing benches, cleaning drains, servicing HVAC systems, and replacing 20 LED fixtures in dimly lit areas. New York City council members remarked on how improved station lighting, seating, and upkeep make the system more welcoming and can help riders feel more comfortable.

The improvements were made as part of the Station REVIVE Program—New York City Transit’s station state of good repair program. To date, projects have been completed at more than 180 stations.
