National Transit Career Day 2026 Is Nov. 12!

Join APTA in celebrating National Transit Career Day Nov. 12! The day is the perfect opportunity for public transportation agencies, private- and public-sector organizations, and non-profits to partner in recruiting new talent and engaging current employees.

APTA has a wealth of resources available for use in highlighting the rewarding career paths available in the industry for engineers, planners, marketing professionals, social media experts, drivers, managers, executives, and more.

Here’s some examples of potential activities:

National Transit Career Day participating organizations can host a career day onsite at their own facility or host a virtual event or social media campaign. On-site career days and virtual events can focus on an existing organization initiative.

Organizations with current recruitment or retention initiatives can simply schedule their existing events on Nov. 12, sign-up to participate, and market the event as a “National Transit Career Day” initiative. Organizations not currently hiring can host student tours of facilities or send an employee to a school to introduce students to the industry.

Here’s a quick look at what some organizations already have planned:

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), San Francisco, CA, will be hosting recruitment tables at some of its stations, highlighting the wide range of career opportunities available within the agency and focusing on connecting directly with the community it serves.

Monterey-Salinas Transit, Monterey County, CA, is hosting a career swap initiative to identify transferable skills, how to acquire new skills or credentials, and engagement in job exploration activities outside of an employee’s current duties.

Susquehanna Regional Transportation Authority (Rabbittransit), York, PA, will hold a recruitment initiative that includes driver ride-a-longs and on-site mechanic hands-on activities.
