Help Build Transit’s Future: Sign Up for National Transit Career Day
10/29/2026

APTA members are encouraged to sign up for National Transit Career Day in advance of the celebration on November 12. The day is an opportunity to introduce students, job seekers, and current employees to the possibilities of a career in public transportation.
From operations and maintenance to engineering, technology, planning, communications, and finance, transit offers opportunities to connect professional interests with community service. National Transit Career Day brings those opportunities into focus through locally organized activities supported by a shared industrywide effort.
Participation can build on work that APTA members are already doing. Organizations can host an onsite event, organize a virtual program, or launch a social media campaign using the hashtag #TransitCareers. An existing recruitment or employee engagement initiative can become a National Transit Career Day activity—giving members a way to participate without starting from scratch.
Career fairs are a great way to fill openings, and those not currently hiring can invite students to tour a facility or bring transit equipment and employees to a school. Internal tours can help employees discover roles and responsibilities beyond their own departments. APTA offers free resources, including career videos and event-planning checklists, to support these efforts.
Internships are another way to connect young people with public transportation and its mission. In signing up for National Transit Career Day, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) shared how the work of its innovation interns led to winning the Introducing Youth to American Infrastructure Grand Innovation Challenge.
