Rep. Larsen Joins APTA, WMATA Officials for Red Line Construction Tour

As Congress heads back to Washington, DC, Rep. Rick Larsen (D-WA), ranking member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, got a close-up view of construction progress being made by the agency that moves the U.S. capital’s workforce.

Rep. Larsen was joined by APTA President and CEO Paul P. Skoutelas and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA/Metro) General Manager and CEO Randy Clarke on a tour of the Red Line’s summer construction.

On X, Clarke said it was a “great opportunity to see the progress and the team’s hard work delivering a safer and more reliable America’s Metro.”

The project involves three main activities:

• Create a second mezzanine at the Bethesda station to integrate the Maryland Transit Administration’s Purple Line.
• Rehabilitate the Grosvenor-Strathmore station platform (replace tiles, add new lighting, and modify drainage).
• Maintain a raised railway.
