LA Metro, Community Partners Break Ground on Vermont Avenue BRT
10/27/2026
Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro) has begun construction on the Vermont Corridor BRT, a 12.4-mile line along one of LA County’s busiest and longest streets.
The project will add dedicated curbside bus lanes and 26 upgraded stations at 13 major intersections. The improvements are expected to cut trips between Sunset Boulevard and the C Line by 17 minutes, or 24 percent.

The corridor serves 88 schools, 375 faith-based institutions, and many communities, which were involved in the planning process.
Melanie To, director of community resources and engagement with the Koreatown Youth & Community Center—a project partner—said, “We celebrate an important step toward a safer, more accessible Vermont Avenue and stronger connections to opportunity for transit-dependent residents. Through the Cultural Asset Mapping and CBO Partnership Program, we’ve worked to ensure this project reflects the heart and soul of the communities we serve.”
The corridor will connect with Metro rail lines and more than 13 east-west bus routes. The agency is working to open the service in time for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The project is supported by voter-approved Measure M funding and a $149.9 million FTA Small Starts grant.
