Cincinnati Metro Goes Electric

4/28/2026

Cincinnati Metro launched its first battery-electric buses as part of the agency’s Reinventing Metro plan to improve service, expand access, and invest in innovation. Two battery-electric buses are now in service, four will be added to the fleet in the summer, and seven more are planned by the end of 2027.

Battery-electric buses improve the rider experience with a quieter, smoother ride while producing zero tailpipe emissions. Over their lifetime, they are expected to eliminate nearly 20,000 tons of carbon emissions compared to traditional diesel buses.

“This is the result of years of deliberate investment, planning, and partnership coming together to move our system forward,” said Brandy Jones, Metro’s chief communications and marketing officer. “We’ve taken a thoughtful, phased approach to introducing new technology, ensuring we have the infrastructure, training, and operational experience in place to deliver reliable service from day one.”

In 2023, Metro integrated hybrid-electric buses into its fleet, which built the foundation for full electrification. Those vehicles have delivered nearly 150,000 zero-emission miles.
