APTA President and CEO Paul P. Skoutelas released a statement Jan. 17, thanking Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg for his strong commitment to investing in public transportation and his leadership in implementing the historic Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
“The strong partnership between APTA, the Department of Transportation (DOT), the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) under Secretary Buttigieg’s leadership has significantly advanced our industry,” he said. “With both historic grant funding and extraordinary technical assistance, public transit agencies and passenger railroads nationwide have been able to access critical opportunities to enhance their transit systems.
“The coordinated efforts of DOT, FTA, and FRA have enabled public transit agencies and passenger railroads to implement substantial projects that will benefit communities for years to come. These investments in modernizing our bus and rail fleets and other improvements are creating jobs, reducing emissions, and enhancing mobility for millions of Americans.
“We look forward to continuing our work with the incoming DOT, FTA, and FRA leaders to build upon these achievements and strengthen public transportation as a cornerstone of America’s transportation future.”
