Everett to Join Community Transit for Unified Expanded Service
11/6/2026

The Everett City Council and Community Transit Board of Directors voted to consolidate its transit systems to create a single unified network in Snohomish County, WA. The consolidation aims to simplify travel across city boundaries and expand service.
Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin said, “One seamless system will help our residents reach destinations both inside and outside of Everett more quickly and easily. Our current Everett Transit staff will continue to provide valuable public service both during this transition and after consolidation with Community Transit.”
Community Transit will assume leadership of Everett transit operations April 1, 2027, under an interlocal agreement, with service expansions starting in 2028. The agreement calls for 50 percent more transit service in Everett by 2031, including more frequent buses and earlier morning and later evening service. Riders can expect fewer transfers, while current Everett paratransit customers will retain their eligibility and service area.
“We are excited to welcome Everett into the Community Transit network and especially pleased to welcome Everett Transit employees as we work to deliver more bus service to Everett,” said Community Transit CEO Ric Ilgenfritz. “These employees know the city and their customers know them. They will play an integral role as we prepare for significantly more transportation options and the arrival of Link light rail in Everett.”
To fund the expansion, Community Transit’s 1.2 percent transit sales tax will replace Everett’s 0.6 percent tax.
