New CT Station Brings Rail Closer to Downtown, Supports Expanded Connection to Airport

11/2/2026

A newly constructed Windsor Locks Train Station opened for CTrail Hartford Line and Amtrak service on October 18. The new station relocates passenger rail and bus service from the south of the town’s downtown area to a central location that is close to housing, businesses, Town Hall, and the public library. Expanded bus service takes passengers from the station to Bradley International Airport in approximately 12 minutes.

“We built this new station to correct the missing link in the redevelopment of downtown Windsor Locks, connecting residents to jobs and travelers to Bradley International Airport and beyond,” said CT Governor Ned Lamont. “Bringing rail and bus service into the heart of downtown encourages new housing and private investment and supports the town’s growth for generations.”

The overall project includes station and roadway improvements as well as track and pedestrian bridge improvements, funded with approximately 85 percent state funds and 15 percent federal funds. Connecticut Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto thanked the governor, FRA, and Amtrak for “bringing passenger rail and bus service into downtown Windsor Locks and helping transform the town’s future.”

Connecticut DOT is coordinating work with Amtrak. Warren LeBeau, Amtrak’s vice president of infrastructure delivery, said, “Together, we’ve created a new, modern, and accessible station for customers.” He said the improved infrastructure strengthens the railroad while providing better connections and supporting future growth in Windsor Locks and beyond.

Track construction remains underway, with full project completion anticipated in the spring of 2028.
