MARTA Begins Construction on Atlanta’s First Arterial Rapid Transit Service
10/30/2026
The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) began construction on Cleveland-Metropolitan Arterial Rapid Transit (ART), a partnership with the City of Atlanta through the voter-approved More MARTA program.
ART combines limited-stop bus service, upgraded shelters, and transit signal priority to make trips faster and more reliable. Buses share lanes with other traffic, but signal priority gives approaching buses preference at key intersections to help them stay on schedule. Service is planned approximately every 15–20 minutes.
Fewer stops are designed to reduce travel time, while larger shelters with better lighting, seating, and real-time arrival information will improve comfort and help riders plan their trips.
The project is intended to improve connectivity, accessibility, and mobility along two busy corridors serving communities with a higher-than-average share of transit-dependent residents. Key destinations include Atlanta Technical College, Atlanta Metropolitan State College, health services, libraries, and the Atlanta BeltLine.
