New Park and Ride Expands Transit Access in Central Tennessee

Murfreesboro Vice Mayor Shawn Wright, Tennessee DOT Public Transportation Section Manager Kaitlyn McClanahan, and WeGo CEO Steve Bland celebrate the opening of the new Murfreesboro Park and Ride.

A new Park and Ride at the Murfreesboro Transit Center is giving residents a more convenient way to reach jobs, education, healthcare, and entertainment across central Tennessee.

The transit hub connects riders with WeGo Public Transit’s express bus service to Nashville and with local Murfreesboro Transit options, offering commuters an alternative to driving on congested roads. The expanded connections are intended to help residents reach opportunities without a car while supporting a more connected regional transportation network.

“When we heard that Murfreesboro was investing in a new transit center and better transit service, we knew that a new WeGo Park and Ride would be a great addition. People can relax on a comfortable coach rather than driving. It’s a popular service because our operators can handle the headaches of rush hour on I-24 for you,” said WeGo CEO Steve Bland.

Tennessee DOT invested $1.3 million in the facility through its IMPROVE Transit Investment Grant. WeGo said the Murfreesboro location could serve as a model for similar partnerships with other fast-growing communities surrounding Nashville.

“Expanding multimodal options is essential to keeping Tennesseans connected, our economy strong, and our communities moving. This new Park and Ride facility demonstrates what’s possible when state, regional, and local partners work together to deliver practical, people-focused transportation solutions,” said Tennessee DOT Deputy Commissioner Preston Elliott.
