SporTran Brings First Autonomous Transit to Shreveport-Bossier

SporTran Transit unveiled its autonomous public transit vehicle at a demonstration event in Shreveport, LA. At the event, community members had a chance to see the Evolve vehicle in action and hear from transportation leaders about how autonomous mobility can improve connectivity and strengthen communities.

The mobility initiative is introducing Louisiana’s first transit vehicle service that is capable of self-guided operation. During a pilot phase, the vehicles will be supervised for safety, to monitor performance, and to assist passengers.

SporTran CEO Dinero’ Washington said, “This event represents much more than the unveiling of a new vehicle. It reflects years of collaboration, innovation, and investment, positioning Louisiana as a leader in the future of public transportation. We’re honored to showcase what’s possible when vision and partnership come together here in Shreveport-Bossier.”

The project received funding from USDOT to help develop workforce training and operational readiness for electric and autonomous transit technologies.

SporTran partner, the Shreveport-Bossier African American Chamber of Commerce said, “This nearly $1 million USDOT SMART Grant investment represents more than new technology. It creates opportunities for innovation, workforce development, training, partnerships, and greater accessibility while positioning our community at the forefront of the evolving transportation industry.”

The vehicles will be tested in Shreveport’s Downtown Entertainment District and Medical Corridor to help connect people with hospitals, jobs, restaurants, events, and more.
