$10M NOFO for Bus Safety, Accessibility, and Innovation

FTA announced the availability of $10 million through its Bus Safety, Accessibility, and Innovation Research Program to research designs and create prototypes that will make buses safer and more accessible. The FY 2026 Notice of Funding Opportunity states that FTA anticipates funding up to two awards.

Eligible activities include:

• Research on bus designs, innovations, and technologies to improve:
  • Transit bus driver safety and securityTransit bus passenger safety and securitySafety of vulnerable road users near transit buses
  • Accessibility of transit buses for users with physical and cognitive disabilities
• Production of a prototype that can be retrofitted on existing buses or installed in new buses
