Milestone Reached in Foothill Gold Line Extension
2/13/2026

Moving closer to bringing light rail to Claremont, CA, the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority awarded a $60 million contract to Parsons Transportation Group. The six-year contract was awarded following a competitive process to identify a team to design and engineer the 2.3-mile extension of the LA Metro A Line from Pomona to Claremont.
Claremont is a picturesque town 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles and at the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. It has a walkable downtown and hosts several college campuses. The extension will take passengers from Claremont to Pasadena in approximately 38 minutes and to downtown Los Angeles in approximately 67 minutes.
The Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority has completed 23 of 25 planned Foothill Gold Line stations linking downtown Los Angeles to the eastern part of the county. “Extending light rail options opens access to neighborhoods that were once limited for commuters. The A Line expansion will improve commuter and visitor access between downtown Los Angeles and the eastern portion of Los Angeles County,” said Mark Fialkowski, president, Infrastructure North America for Parsons.
“Parsons has led design teams for each phase of this project for the past 25 years,” said Fialkowski. Out of three proposal teams, Parsons scored highest on competence and qualifications and scored highest during the interview stage.
