LA Metro Applauds Transit Funding for 2028 Olympic, Paralympic Games

2/4/2026

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro) applauded Congress for including $94.3 million in mobility related funding for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in the recently enacted transportation spending law. The funding was part of a broader bill that provides federal investment for public transit and passenger rail infrastructure. APTA urged swift passage of the bill, which received strong bipartisan support.

With the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games-related funding, LA Metro will continue to move forward with its Games Enhanced Transit System (GETS)—a temporary supplementary system to move spectators and the workforce to and from venues. The funding will also support key station, mobility hub, and light rail improvements; the Games Route Network; and pedestrian enhancements at venue areas.

Metro Chair Fernando Dutra said, “We look forward to collaborating with the federal government to deliver a world-class experience for everyone coming to the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

According to LA Metro, in addition to funding for the 2028 Games, the bill also funds 2026 World Cup transportation assistance, bus stop enhancements, transit safety funding (for the top 10 transit agencies), and the Vermont BRT line in LA County.

Federal funding for public transportation provides benefits beyond the initial investment—in Los Angeles and elsewhere. “Every dollar invested in public transportation returns five dollars in long-term economic value, with 77 percent of federal transit investment flowing to the private sector,” said APTA President and CEO Paul P. Skoutelas. “Passing this legislation will strengthen American manufacturing, support family-wage jobs, and keep the nation moving.”
