WMATA Hosts Hampton University for MICC Tour
4/17/2025

Staff members of APTA’s Workforce Development and Educational Services department, along with Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) leaders, hosted a tour recently for Hampton University to introduce students to internships and careers in the public transportation field.
Jewel Bell, assistant chief transportation officer, buses, and Shanita Wilkinson, assistant chief transportation officer, rail, planned for the students to tour the new Metro Integrated Command & Communications Center (MICC) in Alexandria, VA. The students met two former interns who are now WMATA employees, along with staff who work collaboratively in rail, bus, maintenance, cybersecurity and technology, safety, security, and surveillance.
If you host students for tours and career exploration project-based internships, APTA would like to hear from you. Contact driddy@apta.com or workforce@apta.com to share your workforce initiatives and successes.
