Vontas: The Case for Modernization in Transit Operations

SPECIAL ADVERTISING SECTION:

Why modernization now
Transit agencies are being asked to deliver more reliability, transparency, and speed with fewer resources and tighter budgets. The way forward is adaptable, configurable solutions that integrate seamlessly with existing mission-critical software, giving agencies the agility to modernize in a manageable, timely, and cost-effective way. That seamless integration keeps systems in sync and ensures updates go off without a hitch. A unified, fully integrated system (rather than a patchwork of interfaces) unlocks significant benefits for operations, finance, IT, and—most importantly—riders.
Modular technology integration & modernization
To take advantage of new technologies, agencies need an agile platform with industry-standard APIs for in-vehicle equipment and back-office systems. Equally important is avoiding vendor lock-in and proprietary integrations that limit choice and slow innovation. Specifying ITxPTcertified functionality in procurements widens the aperture on best-fit solutions, reduces integration costs, and accelerates deployment.
Faster time to value
With on-premises and cloud-based options, agencies can choose deployment and management models that shorten time to value and improve resilience. Teams gain single-pane-of-glass dashboards, accessible from any device, anywhere—delivering maximum visibility and flexibility across operations.
Role-based workflows
When each role sees exactly what they need—no more, no less—frontline teams can focus quickly and act confidently. Role-based screens and fields simplify training for operators, mechanics, dispatchers, and supervisors, reducing cognitive overload and improving adoption.
Real-time data as the operational backbone
Real-time data fused with historical context provides the most accurate arrival predictions and decision support, which directly impacts on-time performance and customer experience. Building on a platform grounded in real-time information can even eliminate third-party dependencies for predictions and disruption features.
Cloud-powered operations, built for what’s next
Vontas Cloud is a Vontas managed hosting service for core Vontas applications in Microsoft Azure, reducing the burden of on premises infrastructure while improving security, reliability, and agility. Our flagship products OnRoute and OnSite are operated and supported by Vontas so agencies can focus on transit operations.
RTC Washoe County transitions to the cloud
The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County in Reno, Nev., has successfully migrated Vontas’ OnRoute CAD/AVL system to the Vontas Cloud platform. Completed over a period of five months, the project also included an upgrade of OnRoute, now equipped with real-time General Transit Feed Specifications (GTFS-RT) capabilities that enables the agency to provide real-time transit information to passenger systems.
