VIA Rail Montreal Project to Provide More Seamless Rail-to-Flight Connections
8/19/2026

VIA Rail Canada has launched the co-development phase of the Dorval Multimodal Hub, a new integrated station designed to bring together passenger rail, public transit, and airport shuttle service in one location near Montréal-Trudeau International Airport.
The project will connect VIA Rail and exo rail services with the shuttle to YUL Montréal-Trudeau International Airport, while improving links to the nearby Dorval Terminus. VIA Rail said the hub is intended to simplify travel across Montréal’s West Island by making transfers between rail, public transit, and air travel more seamless.
“At VIA Rail, we believe that transforming the rail experience begins before passengers even step aboard,” said President and CEO Mathieu Paquette. “That is why we have brought together Kiewit, exo, the ARTM [Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain], and ADM [Aéroports de Montréal] to co-develop a hub that meets the real needs of the Dorval community and the 250,000 travelers who pass through our station each year. Our shared objective is to provide passengers with more efficient and user-friendly public transit solutions.”
The work includes bringing VIA Rail and exo stations together on the current exo site, integrating the airport shuttle service, and better aligning network connections. Kiewit has been selected as the project’s design and construction partner. During co-development, VIA Rail, Kiewit, and project partners will define the hub’s design, plan the user experience, and assess transportation services integration. The process will help identify technical challenges, validate proposed solutions, and provide cost and schedule estimates. Construction is planned to begin in 2027.
