TTC Tests Its Service Plan in Advance of World Cup Games

5/8/2026

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) will test and refine its capacity and service plans for the World Cup when Toronto FC plays Inter Miami this weekend. The match will serve as a dry run, testing the public transit system’s readiness, service levels, response times, and teamwork. The dry run will be used to identify gaps and refine plans ahead of the city’s first World Cup game on June 12.

TTC’s plans for the games include boosting service across all modes of public transit, including key routes and expanded subway service, and completing transit priority measures, such as new RapidTO lanes, which will save up to seven minutes per trip.

The agency also announced that it will deploy more than 600 event ambassadors—identifiable by red TTC jerseys—across the system for the tournament. Ambassadors will be positioned at high-traffic locations to help fans navigate the system.

TTC CEO Mandeep S. Lali said, “We’ve been preparing for this moment for many months, and our focus is clear: deliver the service our customers need, provide simple and reliable information, and respond decisively as conditions evolve. Our ambassadors will play a vital role in welcoming the world to Toronto, ensuring every journey matters.”
