TTC Opens Line 6 Finch West, Expanding Rapid Transit and Regional Connectivity
12/17/2025

Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), ON, Canada, has opened its Line 6 Finch West light rail service, delivering a significant expansion of rapid transit service and strengthening connections across northwest Toronto. The new line introduces a modern, high-capacity transit option along one of the city’s busiest corridors, improving access to jobs, education, and regional transit services.
“I am delighted to be welcoming customers on board the newly opened Line 6 Finch West,” said Mandeep S. Lali, TTC chief executive officer. “This is an important moment for transit in Toronto, and the TTC has been working tirelessly—days, nights, and weekends—to be ready to deliver a safe, reliable, and outstanding customer experience.”
Line 6 Finch West operates between Finch West Station on Line 1 Yonge–University and Humber Polytechnic’s North Campus, with 18 stops along Finch Avenue West. The line provides convenient transfers to TTC bus routes and regional services operated by GO Transit, MiWay, York Region Transit, and Brampton Züm, strengthening multimodal travel options throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
The project reflects close collaboration among multiple partners, including the TTC, Metrolinx, the City of Toronto, and the Province of Ontario.
“I feel privileged, on behalf of many hard-working members of the Metrolinx team, to announce the opening of the Finch West LRT alongside our partners,” said Michael Lindsay, Metrolinx president and CEO. “We recognize that delivering this project has not come without challenges and disruption, and we deeply appreciate residents’ and businesses’ patience and resilience throughout this journey. We remain committed to delivering the benefits this new transit line will bring to communities.”
Under operating agreements with Metrolinx and the City of Toronto, TTC serves as the operator of Line 6 Finch West, drawing on more than a century of experience as North America’s third-busiest public transit agency. TTC is responsible for train operations, station staffing, security, and revenue control, while infrastructure and vehicle maintenance are handled by Mosaic Transit Group under contract to Metrolinx. The arrangement underscores the collaborative model increasingly used to deliver and operate major transit investments.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow emphasized the immediate benefits for riders and the broader transportation network.
“Today is a great day for transit users, especially those in the northwest of the city, who now have a dedicated transit line to connect them to work, school, and home,” Chow said. “Line 6 means getting to work and home faster, saving time while reducing congestion on our busy roads.”
With the opening of Line 6 Finch West, Toronto continues to expand its rapid transit network in ways that support equity, economic opportunity, and sustainable growth—demonstrating how strategic investment and partnership can deliver lasting benefits for riders and communities alike.
