TTC Transforms Urban Mobility with Line 5 Eglinton

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), ON, Canada, has begun a phased opening of its Line 5 Eglinton light rail service—an investment that will reshape mobility across one of the city’s busiest corridors.

Spanning 19 kilometers and featuring 25 new stations, Line 5 Eglinton runs along Eglinton Avenue, linking communities from Mount Dennis Station in the west to Kennedy Station in the east. The new line provides riders with faster, more reliable travel options while strengthening connections across Toronto’s transit network. With improved east-west connectivity, the line will help reduce congestion, support sustainable development, and expand access to jobs, education, and essential services.

TTC will serve as the operator of Line 5 Eglinton, taking on responsibility for train operations, station staffing, revenue control, and security. This role positions TTC at the center of delivering the customer experience, ensuring the new service meets the agency’s established standards for safety and reliability.

The line is the product of close collaboration among multiple partners. Under agreements with Metrolinx and the City of Toronto, TTC will work alongside project stakeholders to integrate Line 5 seamlessly into the region’s broader transit system. Maintenance of the infrastructure and vehicles will be carried out by Crosslinx Transit Solutions under contract to Metrolinx, underscoring the importance of coordinated partnerships in delivering major transit projects.
