Transit Agencies Prepare to Roll Out Enhanced Services for World Cup
5/27/2026

After years of planning, transit agencies located in cities hosting World Cup games this summer are ready to provide expanded support for the influx of visitors. Here’s what’s being planned by Trinity Metro in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX, Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) in Houston, TX, and Metrolink in Los Angeles, CA.
Dallas/Fort Worth, TX
Trinity Metro’s plan is designed to support both World Cup visitors and frequent customers. The agency has spent several years coordinating with regional and event partners to prepare for the event and to link visitors to other attractions across North Texas.
The agency’s plan includes:
- Expanded connections between Fort Worth, Arlington, Dallas, and DFW International Airport
- Additional service during peak travel periods
- Schedule adjustments around match and event activities
- Deployment of additional vehicles and operational resources
“This is one of the largest international events North Texas has hosted, and Trinity Metro is prepared to move people safely and efficiently on the Trinity Metro system,” said President and CEO Rich Andreski.
On matchdays, Trinity Railway Express will provide transit options between Fort Worth and Arlington. On non-match days, the agency will help operate Cowtown Visitor Shuttle motorcoaches to link soccer fans to Fort Worth attractions.

Houston, TX

METRO will extend service hours and frequency for World Cup matches. The agency will also increase security and utilize METRO ambassadors to assist riders at key locations. Service enhancements include:
- Rail: Service is extended until midnight with increased frequency on Red, Green, and Purple lines
- Bus: Extended service hours and frequency for key corridors and activity centers
- Park & Ride: Routes will operate seven days a week with extended hours and increased frequency. Off-peak service will run every 30 minutes until midnight
Visitors arriving by air can take METRO’s 500 Downtown Direct, which now connects both major airports (IAH and HOU) to downtown, operating every 30 minutes with a one-way fare of $4.50.
The agency’s plan is the result of months of coordination with the City of Houston, regional partners, law enforcement, and event organizers to align transportation, traffic management, and communications before and during the tournament. Improvements made for the tournament are intended to create a safer, more reliable, and more accessible transit network.

Los Angeles, CA

Metrolink will enhance rail service to help fans travel to matches at Los Angeles Stadium and select fan fest events. To help passengers travel safely to and from matches, celebrations, and related activities, Metrolink will run special service on the 91/Perris Valley, Antelope Valley, Orange County, San Bernardino, and Ventura County lines during all eight match days and four fan fest dates.
The modified schedule and standard Metrolink fares include:
- Late-night options for evening matches
- Complimentary transfers to LA Metro, including special direct bus service between LA Union Station and Los Angeles Stadium
- Free bus service connecting Anaheim Station with the competition venue
“With thousands of fans and visitors from around the world expected to attend, Metrolink will play a critical role in connecting locals and out-of-town guests to these historic events while reducing traffic and improving mobility across the region,” said Board Chair Doug Chaffee.
