Sound Transit to Connect North Lake Washington Communities
3/9/2026

Breaking ground in more ways than one, Sound Transit and its project partners aim to connect communities from Shoreline South station to Bothell, WA, through the development of a Stride S3 Line. Sound Transit celebrated the groundbreaking of the S3 project to connect North Lake Washington communities via fast and reliable battery-electric buses.
Sound Transit relies on an ISO 14001 Environmental and Sustainability Management System to limit the environmental impact of its construction projects. The Stride S3 Line will continue to sustain the agency’s long legacy of sustainable transit.
The Stride S3 line will feature 14 new stations. Each station will be equipped with real-time arrivals information and large, comfortable shelters. Battery-electric buses are expected to operate every 10-15 minutes up to 19 hours per day. In addition to the 14 new stations, the S3 Line project will include new business access and transit (BAT) lanes, sidewalks, plantings, and intersection improvements.
In anticipation of the completion of the new project, Snohomish County Executive and Sound Transit Board Chair Dave Somers said, “Transit is becoming more multimodal as Sound Transit and King County Metro work together to expand service, and Stride S3 will further enhance east-west connections. We are proud to work together closely with Sound Transit as we continue to raise the bar on transit service in this area and across our county.”
The breaking ground of the Stride S3 line by Sound Transit is the first step in a long-term project that, with time, will connect communities all over the Seattle metropolitan area.
