SEPTA Makes Infrastructure Improvements Ahead of World Cup Matches
6/11/2026

SEPTA announced infrastructure improvements at NRG Station and other key locations as the agency prepares to carry tens of thousands of World Cup fans to matches at Philadelphia Stadium. The enhancements support a safe and efficient customer experience during the tournament. Improvements include platform resurfacing, a new roof, a new ventilation system, enhanced lighting, waterproofing improvements, and new wayfinding signage.
“SEPTA is ready to show that our first-class transit system is ready for world-class events,” said General Manager Scott A. Sauer. “With SEPTA’s long-term funding still unsettled, we were strategic and cost-conscious when allocating resources for system improvements ahead of these events, and we managed to find a balance that will benefit customers for the short- and long-term.”
SEPTA also completed or advanced improvements at other stations expected to see heavy use during the World Cup, the MLB All-Star Game, and other major Philadelphia festivities. The work includes lighting enhancements, platform resurfacing, new cameras and bi-directional roto-gates, wayfinding signage, and a new roof and ventilation system.
The investments build on SEPTA’s broader service plan for the six World Cup matches and the Fan Festival. On match days, the agency will provide extra trips to and from NRG Station; the B and L lines will operate overnight on match days. The improvements are intended not only to support World Cup travel, but also to strengthen the customer experience across the system for future large-scale events and daily riders.
