SacRT Raises Awareness of Human Trafficking
1/6/2026

This January—National Human Trafficking Prevention Month—the Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) is launching a campaign to raise awareness of human trafficking. The campaign includes multilingual resources to help transit riders recognize the signs of trafficking. This includes bus shelter ads, posters, and social media messages.
SacRT is also working with community partners to educate the public on the signs and steps that should be taken to report suspicious activity. Its public service announcement focuses on how “we can help stop human trafficking in our communities.”
APTA has compiled resources from federal and transit agencies in the fight against human trafficking. USDOT provides information to help counter human trafficking. APTA’s Polly Hanson’s “Call to Action” webinar provides a detailed discussion on human trafficking and transit, including best practices for prevention and reporting.
Educating transit riders and workers on the signs of trafficking, and empowering them to take action to report suspicious activity, can make a difference in stopping the transportation of victims.
