4/1/2026

APTA business member Alstom was recognized by Fast Company as one of the World’s Most Innovative Companies in 2026. The transit manufacturer and supplier was included in the hallmark list for its role in advancing American rail through the production of Amtrak’s NextGen Acela trains. The award celebrates the impact of building and delivering modern high‑speed trains within the United States and the resulting economic growth.

The project’s economic impact includes:

  • Over 1,200 jobs created in upstate New York
  • A supply chain that spans 180 suppliers, 29 states, and 137 communities
  • 95 percent domestic content, establishing the nation’s first high-speed rail manufacturing ecosystem
  • An estimated 15,000 jobs supported nationwide

Amtrak’s vision and investment enabled Alstom to design and manufacture the cutting-edge high-speed trains, building on the manufacturer’s 40+ years of European high-speed rail expertise. The project strengthened U.S.-based skills and manufacturing capacity to deliver high-speed rail programs more efficiently and competitively.

President of Alstom Americas Michael Keroulle said, “Together, we’ve shown that high‑speed rail can be a powerful engine of economic growth across the United States and a catalyst for the country’s next era of mobility.”
