Public Transportation Industry Celebrates PRIDE!

6/26/2025

Public transportation agencies across the U.S. and Canada are celebrating Pride Month, June, with special events and wrapped buses and trains. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Pride celebrations, which include parades/marches, festivals, and other activities.

In Seattle, WA, King County Metro is flying the Pride Progress Flag at its Bellevue Base. King County Executive Shannon Braddock issued a proclamation officially recognizing June 2025 as LGBTQIA+ Pride Month in the county.

The agency is taking part in several events, including the Seattle Pride Parade and TransPride, where it is sharing all things Metro.

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) unveiled new 2025 designs for its Pride Train and Ventra card, adorned with the colors of a rainbow. This year marks the eighth year the Pride Train has made its voyage in Chicago on the Red Line.

“CTA stands ready to take you to all the fun events that Pride month has to offer,” said CTA Acting President Nora Leerhsen. This year’s train features a new exterior design that uses bold, vertical waving stripes of color that will cover the entirety of the eight-car train. Inside, each railcar features new car cards that provide local historical facts and information.

In Canada, the Toronto Transit Commission’s (TTC) Pride Bus is specially designed with images featuring three TTC employees.

“The TTC is All In for building a culture where everyone can bring their authentic selves to work,” said TTC CEO Greg Percy. “Supporting the community, employees, or customers means embracing and ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of equality.”

The Pride Bus was unveiled during a Pride Month celebration at the TTC’s flagship Hillcrest Complex.

In Minneapolis, MN, Metro Transit is celebrating Pride Month with two wrapped buses and limited edition Go-To Cards.

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro) is, once again, the official transit partner for L.A. Pride, and is joining parades in Long Beach, Culver City, and the San Fernando Valley. It is also offering a special TAP card.

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA/Metro) has been running special wrapped trains and buses for Pride.

In addition, a limited-edition wooden WMATA Metro train toy celebrates World Pride in DC. This miniature train is a replica of the real Metro Pride train running during the celebrations.

For the third year, members from the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) walked alongside the agency’s Pride in Transit Bus in Boston Pride for the People’s parade June 14.
