National Mentoring Month: Meet the TRB Minority Fellows!
1/6/2025
January is National Mentoring Month and an opportunity for the public transportation industry to acknowledge and celebrate organizations for their formal and informal mentorship programs.
APTA will be sharing a series of articles and podcasts featuring the recruitment, retention, and reskilling benefits of mentorship programs. Hear from CEOs about the business case for mentoring and from frontline staff, interns, and apprentices on how their mentors nurture their success in the industry. Subject matter experts will also share data and provide tips for organizations to take the first steps toward launching a program.
If your organization has a successful workforce program, APTA would like to hear from you. 2025 could be the year when APTA features your organization’s workforce success in an article. Contact driddy@apta.com and workforce@apta.com.
To launch National Mentoring Month, APTA presents a virtual interview introducing two of the Transportation Research Board’s (TRB) Minority Student Fellows. TRB Fellow Diego Simmonds is a senior at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, majoring in civil engineering; and TRB Fellow Kierstin Hines is a sophomore majoring in Environmental Science with a focus on geographic information systems, remote sensing, and spatial analysis at North Carolina Central University. Learn about their transportation research here (Passcode: NMkT@Hk8).
