MTI WEBINAR: Keeping AAPI Seniors Connected: Addressing Mobility and Safety
5/13/2025

The Mineta Transportation Institute (MTI) is hosting a webinar on how public transportation can best serve the aging Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) population May 28 from 12:00-12:30 p.m. Pacific. The webinar, co-sponsored by APTA, is based on a California State University Transportation Consortium research project funded by California’s Senate Bill 1, Road Repair and Accountability Act.
Projections indicate that the AAPI community will make up 11 percent of people 65 years and older in the U.S. by 2050. AAPI elders face unique mobility challenges, including language barriers, cultural barriers, anti-Asian discrimination, accessibility to public transit, traffic safety, and public security concerns.
During the webinar, experts will discuss how public transportation can adapt to meet the needs of aging populations.
