MTI Invites Students to Spotlight Rail Careers in Poster Contest

10/19/2026

The Mineta Transportation Institute (MTI) is inviting elementary students to explore the people and careers that keep America moving by rail through its annual poster contest. The contest is co-sponsored by APTA and CRISI: Promoting Railroading Careers and Developing the Current Rail Industry Workforce.

Open to students in grades 1–6, the contest asks participants to use art and imagination to highlight the conductors, engineers, mechanics, dispatchers, safety inspectors, and other professionals behind passenger and freight rail—and show why their work matters to communities.

Eight winners will be selected: four from grades 1–3 and four from grades 4–6. In each age group, winners will receive a gift card worth $200 for first place, $150 for second place, $75 for third place, and $50 for the People’s Choice winner.

The deadline to submit entries is January 22. Learn more and submit entries.
