MBTA to Launch Weekday Harbor Loop Ferry Service During Peak Commuting Hours

6/10/2026

By the end of June, travelers going to four busy destinations in Boston, MA, during rush hour will have another public transit option. The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) is launching a new year-round weekday ferry route linking Lovejoy Wharf at North Station, Central Wharf near Aquarium Station, the Seaport, and Logan Airport. The Harbor Loop is designed to expand transit access across Boston Harbor and improve connections at the four locations.

The service will operate on weekdays approximately every 30 minutes during peak periods. Morning trips will run counterclockwise from 6:10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., while evening service will run clockwise from 3:55 p.m. to 7:50 p.m.

Governor Maura Healey said, “Expanding ferry service helps us take advantage of Boston Harbor as a transportation asset while strengthening connections across the MBTA system and improving access to jobs, housing, and Logan Airport.” Interim Secretary of Transportation and MBTA General Manager and CEO Phillip Eng added that the agency is expanding service options as there is growing public interest in water transportation.

The Harbor Loop will supplement, not replace, the existing Seaport Ferry. The new service is intended to provide more consistent travel options during peak commuting hours while strengthening links to the broader transit network.
