Laketran Responds to Public Need, Expands Dial-a-Ride to Seven Days a Week

Laketran, Lake County, OH, has expanded its paratransit Dial-a-Ride service to seven days a week. In addition, the agency is extending service hours on Saturdays for both Dial-a-Ride and local routes, adding to the significant increase in transit access throughout Lake County.

The new Sunday service will help customers, particularly seniors and people with disabilities, get to shopping, religious services, and other social activities. “Providing access and mobility is at the core of our mission,” said Laketran CEO Ben Capelle. “For years, we have heard from customers that Sunday service is essential to their independence and quality of life. We view this expansion as our commitment to the community and a direct response to their needs.”

The decision to expand service was strongly supported by customer feedback. In a recent survey, 70 percent reported that their lives are restricted on Sundays due to a lack of transportation. Sixty percent of customers indicated that they have no means of transportation on Sundays, while others said they must rely on friends or family. Respondents were most excited about using Sunday service to attend religious services, visit family and friends, shop, and travel to work.

Laketran’s Dial-a-Ride program offers door-to-door transportation throughout Lake County for seniors and individuals with disabilities but is also uniquely offered to the general public.
