Laketran Expands Seniors on the Go Program
2/18/2026

Seniors in Lake County, OH, shared their public transportation preferences; Laketran listened. The agency announced the expansion of its Seniors on the Go program to include fare-free rides on fixed local bus routes after being encouraged by a regular rider.
The Seniors on the Go program, launched in May 2025, provides Dial-a-Ride transportation fare-free to seniors to help curb isolation. Since the launch, Laketran reported providing more than 25,000 trips. The expanded program responds to the needs of older adults with greater flexibility and independence.
“While seniors appreciate the program’s free rides on Dial-a-Ride, there is a lot more flexibility when you use the local routes because you don’t need to make an advance reservation,” said Willoughby resident Terry Foreman. “Plus, not all seniors need the assistance provided by Dial-a-Ride. I’m very capable of walking to a bus stop to get where I need to go.”
Laketran Board President Brian Falkowski said, “By adding fare-free access to our local routes, we’re giving seniors more independence, more choice, and more opportunities to stay connected to their communities.”
