Jonathan Hunt to Serve as MARTA’s Permanent GM/CEO

The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) selected Jonathan Hunt—interim general manager and CEO—to serve in the role permanently. Hunt has held the interim role since August 2025 and was previously MARTA’s chief legal counsel. He currently serves on the APTA Board of Directors, chairs its Legal Affairs Committee, and is a member of its Strategic Engagement Council.

In his role as MARTA’s interim GM and CEO, Hunt led the agency through a redesign of its bus network, replacement of its fare payment system, and implementation of the city’s first BRT system. He also oversaw operations, safety, and customer experience for the World Cup games hosted in Atlanta, GA.

“Over the past year, Jonathan has demonstrated strong leadership and adept decision-making, guiding MARTA through its largest and most complex periods of improvement in its history. At the same time, he has strengthened stakeholder relationships, improved public and employee engagement, and ensured the customer is always front and center,” said MARTA Board of Directors Chair Jennifer N. Ide.

Hunt said he is honored to continue the “important work of improving MARTA service, increasing ridership, and expanding the transit system” while “creating a safe, clean, and reliable transit system.”

Hunt joined MARTA’s legal department in 2014. Earlier in his career he worked for the City of Atlanta, practiced law, and was a project engineer with a building company.
