In Memoriam: H.E. Christian Peeples, Board Member, AC Transit

H.E. Christian Peeples, longtime board member of the Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit), Oakland, CA, has died.

Peeples joined the AC Transit board in 1997 as an at-large director, beginning a 28-year journey marked by dedication and vision. He was regarded as a pioneer in environmental stewardship, passionately driving the adoption and advancement of AC Transit’s zero-emission bus technologies. He worked alongside mechanic staff to learn the complexities of hydrogen and fuel-cell technologies. This practical experience, combined with his passion for sustainable transit, earned him the reputation of a trusted expert.

Transit agencies from around the world frequently sought his guidance and insights as they navigated the complex transition from conventional buses to hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles.

Peeples regularly attended APTA events and local, regional, state, and federal-level meetings to advance legislation that supported AC Transit and APTA’s shared mission. He had served on the APTA Title VI Subcommittee and on the State Affairs, Planning and Program Development, Access, and Bus Operations committees.
