The City of Torrance, CA, has expanded the coverage zone and service hours of its Connect Torrance on-demand microtransit program, following significant ridership growth and operational efficiency during its first six months of service.
Data reveals the early success of the Connect Torrance microtransit program:
- Outstanding rider satisfaction with an average rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars.
- Strong ridership growth, with monthly rides nearly doubling between January and May.
- Quick service, with an average pick up time of just 9.5 minutes.
- Improved cost-efficiency, showing a decrease in cost per ride and per mile
Top destinations include El Camino College, Del Amo Fashion Center Mall, Torrance YMCA, Torrance Memorial Medical Center, Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center, and Discovery Park.
“In just six months, Connect Torrance has proven to be a valuable step toward building a more connected and inclusive city, one where everyone can reliably access essential and leisure opportunities without needing their own car,” said David Mach, transit planning manager for the City of Torrance.
The project is funded by a combination of LA Metro’s Measure M Visionary Seed Funds, Measure R Transit program funding administered by the South Bay Cities Council of Governments, and Torrance Transit’s operating budget.
Torrance Transit and the City are working to incorporate feedback from residents during the initial pilot phase, with the goal of optimizing service and expanding coverage in the future.
