APTA Observes Juneteenth

6/19/2024

APTA and public transit agencies around the country are observing Juneteenth, June 19, commemorating the ending of slavery in the U.S. On June 19, 1865, the enslaved people of Texas finally received news of their freedom, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by President Lincoln.

Equitable treatment is one of APTA’s core values—equal mobility and opportunity for all. Equal justice is an essential underpinning of that vision. APTA and the public transportation industry is dedicated to working to fight injustice and improve equality.
