BART Adds Late-Night World Cup Service, Coordinates with Other Agencies

6/15/2026

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) will provide special late-night service after select San Francisco, CA, World Cup matches. The service will help fans leaving the stadium connect elsewhere in the city and East Bay after the games.

Limited-express trains will extend service during hours when BART is normally closed. These additional trains will be timed to connect with Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) light rail service from the stadium to Milpitas Station.

Trains are expected to depart Milpitas approximately every 30 minutes between 12:30 and 1:40 a.m., depending on how long it takes to clear the stadium and connect riders from VTA. While the special trains will not stop at all BART stations, BART is coordinating with VTA, Caltrain, Capitol Corridor, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, and other regional partners to support late-night travel and move large crowds safely and efficiently.

Bay Area transit leaders have encouraged fans to take public transportation to matches and related events, emphasizing that agencies are aligning schedules and staffing so riders have service available even when evening matches run late. BART General Manager Bob Powers said, “Each of the operators are going to flood the system with additional personnel, from safety and security ambassadors to transportation professionals.”

During the tournament, BART is running longer trains, increasing staff and security presence, deploying extra lighting at key station parking lots, and adding signage and onboard announcements to help riders navigate the system. Learn more at: https://www.bart.gov/news/fun/fifaworldcup.
