Atlanta to Pilot Autonomous Electric Vehicle Transit Network
2/13/2026

Glydways broke ground on its first publicly accessible and fully autonomous, on-demand transit system in South Metro Atlanta. The pilot project, the first of its kind for Glydways, will connect the ATL SkyTrain at the Georgia International Convention Center to the Gateway Center Arena along a dedicated half-mile guideway. The free on-demand and AI-orchestrated service is scheduled to open in December 2026.

The project came from a 2019 feasibility study conducted by the ATL Airport Community Improvement Districts (AACIDs), which recognized gaps in first- and last-mile connectivity in the pilot area. The network would help unserved or underserved populations access jobs, events, and other modes of transit at all hours of the day.
The pilot phases consist of construction and guideway installation, vehicle testing, and system commissioning. The pilot serves as a demonstration of the technology, rider adoption, and validation of Glydways capabilities in Atlanta and elsewhere. Expansion beyond the initial corridor will be evaluated through a study led by the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA).
