ART Continues Expansion with New Ops and Maintenance Facility

Arlington Transit (ART), VA, has opened its new Operations and Maintenance Facility (AOMF), marking a significant milestone in Arlington County’s transportation future as ART continues to expand its bus fleet.

Located in Green Valley on South Shirlington Road, the AOMF will serve as ART’s primary hub for bus maintenance and operations. The $96.6 million facility, which can house up to 61 buses, includes space for charging up to 47 battery-electric buses. The three-story facility also includes a parking garage for employees

The AOMF centralizes ART’s operations, complementing the ART Light Maintenance Facility on South Eads Street (completed in 2017). This consolidation will enhance efficiency, improve service, and make maintenance processes smoother, benefiting the millions of ART riders each year.

Incorporating sustainability features such as an underground stormwater vault, bioretention basins, and an 835-panel solar array, the AOMF is the largest solar installation at any Arlington County facility.
