APTA Chair MJ Maynard-Carey, CEO, Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada; APTA Vice-Chair Leanne Redden, executive director, Chicago Regional Transportation Authority; and APTA President and CEO Paul P. Skoutelas participated in the International Association of Public Transport’s (UITP) Global Public Transport Summit in Hamburg June 15-18.

The summit and expo brought together public transport professionals from the public and private sectors to exchange ideas on global transit trends, challenges, and next practices.
Skoutelas facilitated a session on the global landscape for affordable transit fares, Maynard-Carey led a discussion on the opportunities AI offers for transit operations and planning and Redden moderated a high-level exchange on transit’s role as an engine for delivering thriving cities.
APTA members, including several APTA Executive Committee and board members, served as session speakers on critical issues ranging from safety and security to automated vehicles to transit for large events.
Prior to the summit, APTA teamed up with partner PTAANZ (the Public Transport Association Australia New Zealand) and UITP for roundtable discussions and site visits on Hamburg’s mobility strategy and key transit innovations. Notably, transit leaders from across North America, Australia, and New Zealand held an exclusive conversation with Anjes Tjarks, Hamburg’s Minister for Transport and Mobility Transition.
