APTA Launches “That’s Transit” Campaign for Surface Transportation Reauthorization

4/14/2026

At its 50th Annual Legislative Conference in Washington, DC, APTA launched “That’s Transit,” a national campaign highlighting the economic impact of public transportation as Congress begins work on the 2026 Surface Transportation Authorization Act.

The campaign runs across social media and digital news sites targeting the policymakers and stakeholders who will shape the next authorization. Campaign messaging zeroes in on the issues resonating on Capitol Hill right now: jobs, manufacturing, construction, and economic growth.

A video anchors the campaign alongside creative assets highlighting APTA data points, including a five-to-one economic return on every dollar invested in public transit, that 77 percent of every federal transit dollar flows to private-sector companies, and that more than 3,000 suppliers across 50 states manufacture transit components. The campaign also spotlights that households can save up to $13,000 annually by using transit over car ownership.

“‘That’s Transit’ delivers a powerful message to Congress: that public transportation isn’t just about mobility—it’s about American jobs, manufacturing, and economic growth in every state,” said APTA President and CEO Paul P. Skoutelas. “As lawmakers write the next surface transportation bill, this campaign underscores why sustained federal investment in public transit is essential to the nation’s economy and communities.”

The campaign is part of APTA’s broader advocacy to secure a robust, long-term surface transportation authorization.
