APTA Honors Jacobs for 2026 Sustainability Leadership

APTA has recognized member organization Jacobs with Platinum level in the APTA Sustainability Commitment Program, the highest level of achievement in the program. The program is a voluntary initiative that recognizes public transportation agencies and businesses for implementing policies and practices that promote continuous improvement in environmental, social, and economic sustainability.

Sustainability Commitment Program participants are recognized at the Platinum, Gold, Silver, or Bronze level based on measurable achievements. Since the program’s creation in 2009, organizations across the public transportation industry have used the commitment to set goals, track progress, and strengthen the communities they serve.

“APTA is proud to recognize Jacobs for its leadership and ongoing commitment to sustainability,” said APTA President and CEO Paul P. Skoutelas. “By embedding sustainability into its projects, operations, and business practices, Jacobs is helping strengthen communities, improve resilience, and advance a more sustainable future for public transportation.”

Jacobs has reported annually on its sustainability and corporate responsibility performance since 2019, using established industry standards and reporting frameworks. Its current sustainability strategy, PlanBeyond 2025+, emphasizes transparency, measurable outcomes, and solutions to environmental, social, and economic challenges facing clients and communities.

The company has also integrated sustainability into project delivery and business practices. Its AI-enabled Evolve tool provides project teams with recommendations for incorporating sustainability into their work and improving project outcomes and resilience. And a recently completed double materiality assessment strengthened Jacobs’ reporting, accountability, and ability to address emerging sustainability requirements.

Environmental expertise across the company is supported by Jacobs’ Global Network of Environmental Managers, part of its Solutions and Technology network. The network brings together subject matter experts in environmental regulatory compliance, permitting, environmental management systems, hazardous materials, and waste management.

Jacobs has also reduced the environmental impact of its operations. In FY24, the company operated using 100 percent renewable electricity and reduced its total annual greenhouse gas emissions by 60 percent from its 2019 baseline. Approximately 74 percent of its nearly $12 billion in annual revenue supported work aligned with environmental, social, and governance priorities. Jacobs also contributed approximately $12.5 million through corporate citizenship and philanthropic initiatives.
